“Mammina mia, oggi sono quattro anni… mi manchi sempre di più…”: con queste parole Mara Venier ricorda la madre Elsa Masci, venuta tristemente a mancare nel 2015. E’ stato un calvario quello che le due donne hanno vissuto; la lotta contro l’Alzheimer non è mai facile. Mara Venier ricorda perfettamente la prima volta che sua madre non l’ha riconosciuta. Quel giorno Elsa Masci si è svegliata, ha guardato la figlia e le ha detto: “buongiorno signora, come si chiama?”.

“Elsa, una donna piena d’amore, energia e passione. Lei era il mio rifugio sicuro” ha scritto Mara Venier nel suo libro dedicato ad Elsa, Mamma ti ricordi di me?. “Io e mamma avevamo un rapporto simbiotico e adoravo essere figlia, tornare a Mestre nella casa della mia infanzia e dormire nel mio lettino… Mia madre ha dato moltissimo amore anche ai miei figli e la sua malattia ci ha uniti, ci ha aiutati a superare vecchie ruggini: tutti e tre abbiamo sentito il profondo desiderio e il dovere di restituirle l’amore che ci ha regalato”.

“Sino al 2020 non sono riuscita a guardare le sue foto” ha raccontato Mara Venier. Elsa è scomparsa nel 2015 in seguito a complicazioni. Dopo la morte della madre, Mara ha iniziato  a scrivere del suo lutto per imparare ad accettarlo: nel 2016, però, il dolore è diventato troppo. “Mi devastava tornare a lei. Mi ha convinto soprattutto mio marito Nicola a finire il libro: secondo lui poteva essere catartico scriverlo e in parte lo è stato”.

Ad aiutarla ad andare avanti è stata la sua famiglia; in particolare “Iaio, il bimbo di mio figlio Paolo. Lo presi in braccio e sentii una scintilla dentro al cuore. Mi invase la gioia e sentii tornare a galla la voglia di vivere”.
